Welcome Aboard the Privateer IV
Privateer IV in Gloucester Harbor
Since 1983, we have had the privilege of introducing thousands of passengers to the many species of whales and marine wildlife that visit and inhabit the waters just a few miles from our dock in historic Gloucester, Massachusetts. (approx. 50 min drive North from downtown Boston)
7 Seas Whale Watch is a local family business – Three generations of career captains have worked from this very dock for more than 7 decades. We have a love and respect for the marine environment and a passion for providing the best possible customer experience for you and your family.
The whales and marine wildlife we observe are wild, untrained animals in their natural habitat. It is impossible to predict the quantity, species and behavior of the whales and wildlife that we observe – Each trip is unique. That having been said, the highly productive waters just off the Massachusetts coast often attract a great number and variety of whales and other marine wildlife which is why we have an over 99% sightings record.

Nice fast boat with bow extension that lets you look down at the water right under you. Pleasant and knowledgeable naturalist pointing out details when we were in the middle of humpbacks, and she was moving around the boat for individual... conversations when things were not so exciting.Captain told us where we were heading that day and then a bit later got direct news from a fishing boat and he switched plans. We were incredibly lucky. I lost count of the humpbacks, one to four at a time, that we saw up close on the surface, blowing, breaching. A trip a week ago saw a tiny fraction of what we saw.read more
What a fabulous experience! I had my first watch in Gloucester with my Mom in the 80s. Brought my 2 best friends on their first voyage! It was touch and go, but they found a mother and calf. What a wonderful first experience! And it was my birthday,... so icing on cake! 10 Stars!read more
Always love 7 Seas Whale Watch. Staff is so knowledgeable and the Captain is skilled and attentive. The seas were rough today and no whales but we did see dolphins which was a thrill. Fresh air was worth it.
Incredible experience. We saw at least 3 different species of whales in large groups, including Minkes, Humpbacks, Fins (and their calf), and got to see groups of Fins feeding at least 7-8 times when they created bubble curtains and came up though... it to gulp the fish they surrounded. Our guide, Amanda, was also amazing and very knowledgeable. She made the trip more interesting by explaining things like: what the whales were doing, what species they were, and giving us other background information.read more
